Elementary

At Sunlight Christian Academy, we hold students to a high academic standard while nurturing their spiritual growth. Housed at our Lower School Campus, our elementary program uses a variety of curricula that work together to provide an education that is both rigorous and faith-centered. Grounded in the latest educational research, our approach equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed academically while shaping their worldview through the lens of Christian values. Our goal is to prepare students to approach real-world challenges with wisdom, confidence, and a strong Christian perspective.

Extension Activities

Education that helps students truly flourish.

At our school, we believe education goes beyond core subjects to help students truly flourish. In addition to Bible, reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, we incorporate a faith-based curriculum that teaches social-emotional learning (SEL) through a Biblical framework, with a special focus on building strong friendship skills. Students also enjoy a variety of specials classes, including PE, Music, Spanish, Art, and Computer Science.

Educational field trips are planned throughout the year to bring learning to life and provide meaningful, real-world experiences. Some trips include visits to NASA, historic St. Augustine, the zoo, and other destinations that deepen students' understanding of God's world.

Each week begins with chapel, where our school community gathers to worship and hear God's Word together. These experiences work hand in hand to nurture both the minds and hearts of our students.

Academic Support

Every child has the resources they need to flourish.

We closely monitor each student's academic progress to ensure they thrive. Teachers provide in-class support when they notice a student may need extra help and determine whether additional intervention could be beneficial. If further support is needed, students may be referred for Tier 3 intervention, where our three skilled interventionists work with them 2–3 times per week in addition to regular classroom instruction. Please note that our intervention program has limited spots, ensuring focused, individualized support. This extra support helps students gain confidence and succeed, ensuring every child has the resources they need to flourish.

Student Voices

Memories from the classroom.

Students shared memories of their early education, including favorite teachers, playing during recess, and learning experiences like making slime or building towers. Some recounted the nerves of their first day of school, with one student humorously noting they accidentally brought their mother's phone to class.

Reading & Writing

Wit and Wisdom

Great Minds

Wit & Wisdom engages students with award-winning fiction and nonfiction texts, iconic works of art, videos, photographs, and more. These materials spark curiosity and deepen students' understanding of the world. Each module centers on an essential topic designed to empower students to read challenging texts, write effectively, and communicate clearly and logically. Rather than relying on isolated skill practice or basal readers, Wit & Wisdom immerses students in authentic, complex texts. By integrating reading, writing, speaking, listening, and vocabulary, students build meaningful connections to the world around them.

Social Studies

Bob Jones Heritage Studies

BJU Press

BJU Press's elementary heritage studies guides students in analyzing and evaluating historical events, world cultures, and primary sources from a Biblical worldview. Engaging lessons and activities develop and strengthen 21st century skills through a variety of features, including graphic organizers, reinforcement pages, biographies, map skills, and study guides. Students relate social studies to other academic disciplines through cross-curricular links, background information, and interactive visuals in ways that help them learn how to make wise decisions about their world.

Science

Bob Jones Science

BJU Press

BJU Science equips students to apply science to life by building foundational knowledge and skills with scaffolded instruction, spiral review, and hands-on activities. Explorations in scientific inquiry give students opportunities to observe, classify, measure data, analyze data, make inferences, and communicate their findings. When they interact with and use models, students are better able to explain and describe their observations as well as make predictions about scientific principles they've learned. Collaborative STEM activities give students opportunities to design, test, and refine engineered solutions to real-world problems.
